How to Prepare for the CA
The best way to prepare for the CA is to produce the essay you are going to write in the allotted time beforehand.
- Start by researching your topic well. Use study guides and websites to get different viewpoints so you have a well-rounded argument.
- Decide what the main thrust of your argument will be e.g. 'Frankenstein was a victim of his own ambition' or 'The creature's fate was determined by Frankenstein's cruel rejection of him.'
- Plan your main points - about 4 to 6 is plenty.
- Next, decide the topic sentence for each paragraph.
- Find your supporting quotations for each paragraph. Remember to analyse not recount!
- Write your paragraphs.
- Write your conclusion.
- Write your introduction. This is best left to the end so that you can be sure that you are introducing accurately as writers often change their views when producing literary analysis.
- Use peer assessment to check it's the best it can be.
- Complete your notes sheet for the CA and do a timed practice at least once leaving at least 10 minutes for checking over your work. (There is an example of a notes sheet here.)
